Proposed Revisions to the Standards, Procedures, and ATS Policy Guidelines

Proposed Changes to the Procedures for Accreditation and Institutional Standards 1–9

In 2008 the Board of Commissioners voted to undertake a four-year project to review and revise, as appropriate, the Commission’s Procedures and Standards of Accrediting. The board appointed a Task Force on the Revision of the Standards and Procedures, which has worked throughout the biennium, presenting proposals to the Commission in February, to the membership in March, and again to the Commission in April. The work of these first two years has focused on the Procedures for Accreditation and General Institutional Standards 1 through 9, which the membership will act on at the 2010 Biennial Meeting.  The work for the second two years, 2010–2012, will begin on the third day of the Biennial Meeting and focus on the Degree Program Standards and General Institutional Standard 10, the standard on extension and distance learning.

Recommendations Regarding ATS Policy Statements

The ATS Board of Directors has suggested a formal change in designation of all existing policies from policy statements to policy guidelines. In addition, the board has recommended that the policy “Professional Ethics for Teachers” (1966/72) be retired. Finally, the following four policy guidelines have been developed by the ATS board and are recommended for approval by the membership.
