Eliza Smith Brown joined the ATS staff in May 2008 as director, communications and external relations. She is responsible for developing and implementing the ATS communications plan, which includes print and electronic publications, the website, media relations, and supporting the programs and services offered to the Association’s membership. She also works with the board and staff on institutional advancement.

Brown has worked for more than thirty years in communications, marketing, and research, with a focus on historic preservation, architecture, and cultural resource management. Her career has included work in the nonprofit sector and for three architectural firms as well as heading her own consulting practice. The author of Pittsburgh Legends and Visions: An Illustrated History, she has co-authored several other books, including A Legacy in Bricks and Mortar: African American Landmarks in Allegheny County and The Duquesne Club Cookbook: Four Seasons of Fine Dining. She has given lectures and tours for organizations such as the Smithsonian, the Frick Art & Historical Center, the Chicago Architecture Foundation, Carnegie Mellon University, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Brown was educated at Mount Holyoke College and Cornell University. A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, she currently serves as an elder of Shadyside Presbyterian Church and on the boards of The Carnegie Museum of Art and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
