Janice Edwards-Armstrong  joined the ATS staff in August 2007 as director, leadership education. She administers the leadership education programs for senior administrative officers in ATS schools, the Women in Leadership in Theological Education program, and the Committee on Race and Ethnicity.   Prior to her ATS appointment, she was vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Chatham University in Pittsburgh for four years. While at Chatham, she served on the president’s cabinet, was responsible for the provision of a women-center environment, oversaw six managerial areas, designed and implemented a campus-wide diversity and leadership development program,  was responsible for the coordination of the spirituality center, and related to the university’s interfaith council.

From 1999 to 2003, she was associate vice president for student affairs at Ohio University. In this capacity she oversaw the operation of five areas within the division of student affairs, managed staff development, coordinated six annual division meetings, managed the division’s marketing strategy, established a division-wide diversity action plan, served on the president’s diversity planning committee, created a university-wide diversity website, and led the division’s efforts relative to diversity education and cultural learning for students outside the classroom.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in individual and family studies and a Master of Education in counselor education/college student personnel from The Pennsylvania State University and the Doctor of Education in educational foundations and/higher educational administration from The University of Cincinnati. Her dissertation was titled “African American Women in Higher Educational Administration: Assorted Adaptations between Internal Motivations and External Expectations.”
