Faculty
Educational programs for faculty in ATS member schools have three primary goals:
- to identify and explore issues related to their vocation as theological educators,
- to assess and rethink faculty roles in governance, curriculum, and service programs, and
- to develop increased capacity to exercise leadership as faculty.
Under the current leadership education program for faculty, ATS will convene two consultations: one on curriculum revision and another on seminaries' increasing efforts in nondegree and service programs and the character of faculty work in these areas.
Events
Roundtable Seminar for Newly Appointed Faculty
October 19–21, 2007
Chicago, IL
ATS offers a three-day seminar each fall for faculty who have completed one year in theological education. Participants are nominated by the academic deans of their schools, and the schools pay travel expense and a participation fee.
The seminar addresses the aims and purposes of theological education, the range of faculty work in a theological school, and the corporate roles of theological faculty in institutional administration and the formation of religious leaders. Leadership for the seminar includes deans, content specialists, and often recently tenured mid-rank faculty. Approximately 35 to 40 faculty members attend the seminar each year.
Faculty Vocation and Governance: Consultation B
October 12–14, 2007
Pittsburgh, PA
This seminar will host two faculty each from twenty-five schools in an exploration of faculty governance and vocation. Each school's representatives will design a funded conversational project for their school and will return to a follow-up seminar. By invitation.
