Director, Accreditation Services
Reports to Senior Director for Accreditation
The Director, Accreditation Services is a professional position with responsibilities related to the accreditation of member schools of the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools. Member schools are graduate theological schools throughout North America.
The Director will work closely with the accrediting staff members who serve as liaisons to member schools by performing a variety of functions, primarily as follows: (a) receiving and reviewing reports, petitions, and other administrative documents from member schools; (b) preparing materials for the Board of Commissioners’ review and action; (c) arranging “routine” school visits, in consultation with staff liaisons; (d) maintaining the databases for accrediting-related actions; and (e) organizing and expanding the Accrediting Group and Board of Commissioners’ use of electronic resources to support their work. Additional responsibilities might include those related to educational activities or to government compliance, as time and skill set permit.
The Director is an employee of ATS with principal assignment to the Commission on Accrediting and may occasionally work in other areas of ATS. This position is distinct from that of Director, Accreditation and Institutional Evaluation in that the Director, Accreditation Services neither serves as a liaison nor staffs evaluation visits to member schools.

The Director, Accreditation Services shall normally possess a graduate degree in theological studies, higher education administration, or a cognate discipline. Approximately five years of experience in theological education is preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated abilities to work effectively with a highly educated and diverse constituency, to organize electronic records and digital information, to think creatively and analytically, to manage complex tasks and multiple agendas, to work collaboratively with other director and administrative staff, to work in a technologically enhanced and production-oriented environment, and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a broad constituency.
