An Opportunity to Support Capacity-Building Programs

ATS launched the Increasing Diversity Capacities Among ATS Schools grant project in January 2023 to help member schools better engage and support the diverse audiences and contexts they serve. The Grant Manager will coordinate the grant’s operations, evaluation, and reporting. This role is a strategic, relationship-centered position best suited to a mission-driven professional committed promoting and enhancing theological education.


About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and assess: Partner with ATS staff to compile and evaluate past and present diversity work across the Association; conduct a comprehensive needs assessment across the ATS membership
  • Support grantees: Design and facilitate learning modules, peer groups, and targeted interventions that help schools build capacity to serve diverse student populations in alignment with each school’s mission and theological commitments
  • Advise and collaborate: Consult with ATS senior leadership and the administration team to strengthen the Association’s internal capacity-building efforts; serve as a strategic partner to school leaders on diversity-related initiatives
  • Event execution: Provide logistical and administrative support for onsite gatherings and regional conferences
  • Manage the grant:
    • Lead data collection and performance tracking against project goals
    • Prepare summary reports and analyze progress and impact
    • Coordinate the grant review process
    • Develop evaluation plans and impact assessment methods
    • Resource and manage consultants engaged for grant-related work
    • Collaborate to disseminate learnings and produce a diversity resource guide

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Education and experience: Master’s degree (or higher) in any discipline, plus 5–7 years of relevant experience in theological contexts or diversity initiatives, including event coordination, data analysis, and program design for knowledge dissemination
  • Grant expertise: 5+ years in grant coordination or management with strong organizational and execution skills
  • DEI leadership: 5+ years leading diversity initiatives with a demonstrated record of fostering inclusive environments; established professional network in diversity-related work
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication; strong analytical, management, and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment: Deep sensitivity and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; ability to work effectively across the diversities represented in ATS membership

Work Environment and Travel

This is a remote role that requires frequent travel, including monthly visits to ATS member school locations and periodic onsite meetings at the ATS office in Pittsburgh, PA. Event-related travel may involve multiday conferences and air travel.


Intellectual and Physical Demands

  • Engage effectively with a highly educated and diverse constituency
  • Perform complex data analysis; think creatively and analytically
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently and communicate clearly in writing and speech
  • Typical office activities (sitting, standing, walking, bending); extensive computer use (90 percent of daily work)
  • Ability to lift and carry files up to 10 lbs.; travel by air several times per year
