Congratulations to the newly elected ATS Board of Directors! Both new and continuing members were recognized at the 2026 ATS/COA Biennial Meeting held June 23–25 in Chicago.

Officers

President

Javier A. Viera is president of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and professor of education and leadership in Evanston, Illinois. Previously, he served as dean of the theological school at Drew University and as vice provost of the university. Before entering academic leadership, he spent two decades in ministry, serving in campus and congregational settings across rural, suburban, and urban contexts. Viera is a graduate of Florida Southern College, Duke University, and Yale University, and holds doctoral degrees from Columbia University (EdD, adult learning and leadership) and the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico (PhD, history of Latin America).

Vice President

Todd Still serves as dean of George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He is also the seminary’s Charles J. and Eleanor McLerran DeLancey Dean and William M. Hinson professor of Christian Scriptures. Previously, Still taught at Gardner-Webb University’s School of Divinity where he occupied the Bob D. Shepherd Chair of New Testament Interpretation, and at Dallas Baptist University. Still holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, an MDiv from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a BA in Greek and sociology from Baylor University. A licensed and ordained Baptist minister, he frequently preaches and teaches in congregational and conference settings.

Secretary

Sujin Pak is dean of Boston University School of Theology in Boston, Massachusetts. She has taught courses on the history of Christianity, the Protestant reformers, the history of biblical interpretation, and medieval female mystics. Pak currently serves as the president of both the Association of United Methodist Theological Schools and Wesley Works, and as a member of the University Senate of the United Methodist Church and the executive board of the Calvin Studies Society. Pak received a PhD from Duke University, an MTS from Duke University Divinity School, and a BA in religion and psychology from Emory University.

Treasurer

Nathan Helling is chief financial officer and vice president of operations at Kairo University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This role aligns closely with his passions for organizational stewardship and formation. In addition to his work at Kairos, Helling actively invests in the broader field of theological education through speaking, mentoring, consulting, and board service. His journey has been shaped by a wide network of mentors who have invested in him over the years including friends, colleagues, professors, pastors, and family. Helling received an MDiv from Sioux Falls Seminary and a BA in business administration and management information systems from Augustana College.
