2025 ATS Women in Leadership Pilot Program

Overview

This event is by invitiation only; This program is designed to discern the leadership needs of women in theological education—through a process of listening and learning—and to empower a sisterhood to be bold, innovative, collaborative, and transformative leaders.

Women in Leadership, A Community of Accompaniment

The 2025 Women in Leadership (WIL) Pilot Program will:

  • Empower women for transformative leadership in graduate theological education and related ministerial contexts
  • Develop skills of self-awareness for personal, relational, and intercultural competency, necessary for team building and transformative leadership through the integration of EQ and IQ
  • Develop strong relational networks among diverse affinity groups of and enhance contextually appropriate skills for transformative leadership
  • Support the implementation of women’s leadership capacities in academic and faith communities of praxis

Kandace Boos

Kandace Boos practices mixed-media visual art, often blending the sacred with the everyday, in her home studio in Kitchener, Ontario. She was trained in multi-disciplinary art in London, Ontario, and holds a bachelor’s degree in counselling and intercultural studies from Emmanuel Bible College. She is a member of the Worship and Music Committee at Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church, often sharing her skills in ministry there, and will begin a new role on Mennonite Central Committee’s Indigenous Neighbours Ontario team later this summer. 

Janet Clark

Janet Clark

Janet Clark has extensive experience as a theological educator and executive leader. Most recently she served as senior vice president and academic dean at Tyndale Seminary of Tyndale University in Toronto and, before that, as vice dean at McMaster Divinity College. She is a former president of the ATS Board of Directors as well as a former chair of the ATS Chief Academic Officers Society, and she has chaired numerous ATS evaluation committees. Clark’s background in international work has shaped a lifelong interest in intercultural competence and global engagement. She currently serves as dean emeritus at Tyndale and is active in academic supervision, teaching, and mentoring.

HyeRan Kim-Cragg

HyeRan Kim-Cragg

HyeRan Kim-Cragg is the 14th principal of Emmanuel College of Victoria University and holds the inaugural Timothy Eaton Memorial Church Professorship in Preaching there. She has also served the Executive Committee of the Academy of Homiletics since 2021. Her teaching and research address a range of topics related to biblical interpretation, postcolonial theories, ecology, feminist homiletics and liturgy, migration, and decolonizing practices. As a recipient of The Rowntree Scholarship at The United Church of Canada Foundation (2019), Kim-Cragg has done research on intercultural preaching. She earned a Master of Divinity degree from Hanshin Graduate School of Theology, Hanshin University, and a Doctor of Theology degree from Emmanuel College, University of Toronto.

Pamela Lightsey

Pamela Lightsey

Pamela Lightsey is vice president of academic and student affairs and associate professor of constructive theology at Meadville Lombard Theological School. Prior to her current appointment, she served as associate dean of community life and lifelong learning and as clinical assistant professor of contextual theology and practice at Boston University School of Theology. She is an ordained elder in the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. Lightsey has been a social justice activist, working with organizations focused on peacemaking, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ rights. Her publications include the book, Our Lives Matter: A Womanist Queer Theology (Wipf and Stock) and pieces included in Albert Cleage Jr. and the Black Madonna and Child (New York: Palgrave Macmillan), Prophetic Evangelicals: Envisioning a Just and Peaceable Kingdom (Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company), and Black United Methodists Preach! (Abingdon Press). She earned her Master of Divinity degree at the Interdenominational Theological Center and her PhD at Garrett-Evangelical Theological School.

Molly T. Marshall

Molly T. Marshall

Molly T. Marshall serves as president of United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. She was called to her current position in 2022 after an illustrious career teaching at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for 11 years and at Central Baptist Theological Seminary for 25 years, serving the last 16 as president. Marshall has also worked as a youth minister, campus minister, pastor, and scholar. Part of her ministry has been expressed through writing, including blogs, scholarly articles, and opinion pieces. She has published 13 books, most notably Joining the Dance: A Theology of the Spirit. She recently completed a theological commentary on the Thessalonian correspondence that is forthcoming in the BELIEF series.

Christine Mitchell

Christine Mitchell is academic dean and professor of Hebrew Bible, Knox College. She joined Knox College in 2022 as a scholar of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Mitchell is a United Church of Canada layperson, and previously served for 19 years as professor of Hebrew scriptures at St. Andrew’s College. She is a past president of the Canadian Society of Biblical Studies and was the founding editor of the Advancing Studies in Religion series at McGill-Queen’s University Press. She has served on a number of editorial boards and is active in several scholarly societies. She holds degrees in Near Eastern archaeology (BA, Wilfrid Laurier University), religious studies (MA, Carleton University), and comparative literary studies (PhD, Carleton University).

Margaret Mwenda

Margaret Mwenda

Margaret Mwenda serves as the chief operating officer at Calvin Theological Seminary. She has held other leadership roles in higher education, including associate dean of the college of business and department chair at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has also served as professor of business for 13 years, both in Kenya and in the US. Mwenda holds a PhD in higher education policy and leadership from the University of Iowa.

Barbara E. Reid

Barbara E. Reid is president and professor of New Testament Studies at Catholic Theological Union. She is a Dominican Sister of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her recent books include Wisdom’s Feast. An Introduction to Feminist Interpretation of the Scriptures (Eerdmans Press, 2016); Abiding Word: Sunday Reflections for Year A, B, C (3 vols., Liturgical Press, 2011–13); and Taking up the Cross: New Testament Interpretations Through Latina and Feminist Eyes (Fortress Press, 2007). Reid is general editor for the 58-volume feminist commentary on the Bible, Wisdom Commentary Series (Liturgical Press), and she is past president of the Catholic Biblical Association of America (2014–15). She has led many study tours and retreats in the Holy Lands. Reid holds a PhD in biblical studies from The Catholic University of America, and an MA in religious studies from Aquinas College.

Elaine Robinson

Elaine Robinson

Elaine Robinson has served as academic dean and associate professor of United Methodist studies and Christian theology at Saint Paul School of Theology, Oklahoma Campus since 2008. In addition to her role at Saint Paul School of Theology, she is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and serves as pastor of Village United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. She is the author of several books, most recently, Leading with Love: Spiritual Disciplines for Practical Leadership (2023). Among her research interests are emotional intelligence and contemplative spirituality. Robinson holds a BA from the University of Colorado, an MS from the Air Force Institute of Technology, an MA from California State University, an MTS from Perkins School of Theology, and a PhD from Emory University.

Lynda Robitaille

Lynda Robitaille

Lynda Robitaille is dean of academic programs at St. Mark’s College and Seattle University. She is a scholar of canon law with a history of teaching at multiple institutions, including Saint Paul University, St. Mark's College, and Seattle University. She has been teaching canon law since 1993, first at Saint Paul University, and more recently at St. Mark’s College and Seattle University. Her specialty is marriage and procedural law and jurisprudence. She also writes on the laity and ministry. Her publications include works on topics such as the formulation of doubt in canon law, lay ecclesial ministry, and canonical authorization of lay ministers. She holds a Licentiate of Canon Law, a Doctor of Canon Law, and a specialization in jurisprudence from Gregorian University.

Joanne Rodríguez

Joanne Rodríguez

Joanne Rodríguez is executive director of the Hispanic Theological Initiative (HTI), housed at Princeton Theological Seminary. She has served HTI since 1999, working collaboratively with students, faculty, deans, directors of nonprofit educational programs, and presidents to ensure that HTI doctoral students complete their doctoral studies and become leaders who make an impact in theological and religious education as well as in the larger landscape of education. She is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church USA. She is a teaching elder at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Trenton, New Jersey. Prior to her calling to seminary, she worked in the banking industry for many years as assistant vice president. She earned her Master of Theology and Master of Divinity degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and her BA from Pace University.

Terry Ann Smith

Terry Ann Smith

Terry Ann Smith is the associate dean of institutional assessment and associate professor of biblical studies at New Brunswick Theological Seminary. She oversees the assessment of the institution’s degree programs and non-programmatic areas. She teaches biblical Hebrew and courses in the Old Testament. Her area of scholarship includes various articles on the book of Daniel, Rachel and Leah, Sarah and Ishmael, and the prophet Isaiah. She is currently co-authoring a commentary on Ezra-Nehemiah. Smith holds a PhD and Master of Philosophy from Drew University, a Master of Divinity from New Brunswick Theological Seminary, a master’s degree in information systems, and a bachelor’s degree in management from Roosevelt University. She is an ordained minister serving in Newark, New Jersey.  

Robin Steinke

Robin Steinke

Robin Steinke came to Luther Seminary as president in 2014. She is the first woman in the 145-year history of the seminary to be named to the position. Prior to coming to Luther Seminary, she was the dean of the seminary and professor of theological ethics and public life at Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. She previously served as an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America pastor; a training manager and financial planner at American Express Financial Advisors; and a middle school band director in Marietta, Georgia. Steinke is a graduate of Augustana University. She holds Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology degrees from Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University. She received her PhD from the University of Cambridge. She also previously served a six-year term as a commissioner for the Commission on Accrediting of The Association of Theological Schools.
