  • Project Title: Columbia Biblical Seminary – Engage Program Initiative
  • Project Description: This proposal seeks funding to scale the Engage Program Initiative—an innovative competency-based theological education model—from pilot to full implementation. Engage uniquely integrates traditional academics with competency-based learning to ensure theological depth, ministry relevance, and accessibility. Launched in 2023 with support from Lilly Endowment and ATS, the program serves ministry leaders who need flexible, affordable training and enables students to graduate debt-free. The pilot has addressed early challenges, now serving students in 12 states. The first cohort graduated in May 2025 and reports strong spiritual and academic impact. Grant support will fund a program director, mentor training, scholarships for under-resourced students, system refinements, and expanded marketing. By Year 5, enrollment is projected at 110 students with strong sustainability indicators. Engage offers a replicable model that strengthens church leadership and broader theological education.
