• Project Title: Mastery Based Theological Education
• Project Description: SFTS will create a mastery-based theological education (MBTE) program that provides learners from a wide variety of ministry contexts the specific ministry skills they, the church, and judicatories need from its leaders. What students and congregations identify as essential for effective ministry leadership matters. MBTE will establish a new revenue positive, skill-based program that meets the expressed needs of students, congregations, and denominations. MBTE will build skills for religious leaders’ congregations, non-profit organizations, and unaffiliated Christian communities that may not require theological education. While the goal of mastery-based learning is to ensure more students learn expected ministry skills, the approach can also provide SFTS with more information about gaps in learning and skills acquisition that future and practicing ministers are missing. We will be able to identify specific skill-based concepts and practices for ministry that students want to master.
