• Project Title: Support for Imagining the Pope Francis Institute for Pastoral Flourishing and a Pastorally Engaged West Coast School of Catholic Theology and Ministry and to establish an endowment.
• Project Description: JST-SCU will create and launch the Pope Francis Institute for Pastoral Flourishing in partnership with the University's Department of Religious Studies and the Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries (GPPM). Together they will comprise what will be the largest faculty of Catholic theology and ministry in the Western U.S. and one of the largest Latiné/Hispanic theology and ministry faculties in the nation. The Institute will be a hub for expanding pastoral formation, synodal leadership, and ecclesial innovation in ways that align with the late Pope Francis's calls for the Church to be a "field hospital" for the most marginalized. SCU will partner with six key external partners to open creative pathways for theological formation and ministerial leadership: The Region XI Commission on the Spanish-Speaking (RECOSS), Diocese of San Jose, Diocese of Sacramento, Discerning Deacons, Iskali, and The Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the U.S. (ACHTUS).
