Project Information

  • Initiative: Large-Scale Collaborative Grant (LSCG)
  • Project Title: Vocatia Initiative
  • Project Description: The vision of Vocatia is for every person called to shepherd a congregation to have a process to discern their calling and a pathway to formational training. The collaborative brings together four schools to focus on better reaching and supporting two groups of people toward this vision: co-vocational ministers and oral-preference learners. First, because ministerial training has sometimes assumed a default of "full-time" ministry that excludes co-vocation, we seek to create events that raise awareness of the missional possibilities of co-vocational ministry and create resources that support the unique challenges and opportunities such ministers face. Second, because many pastors who are oral-preference learners do not see themselves as "academic" and thus do not avail themselves of theological education, we seek to provide training to our faculty in oral-culture-informed andragogy to create programs that better serve these learners.
